Canary Islands.- The president of the Canary Islands Special Zone (ZEC), Beatriz Barrera, spoke today in the first discussion panel within the framework of the Conference on Legal Certainty in the Investment in Cinema, held in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where she was accompanied by tax advisers from the firm Assap, representatives of the audiovisual sector of the Canary Islands Government, heads of service of the Canary Islands Tax Administration and from the Inspection Department of the State Tax Administration Agency, with the aim of analysing the aspects technical-tax aspects of the sector.

Barrera noted the importance of the audiovisual sector in the framework of the ZEC, and above all the subsectors of animation and television series which, because they have a longer duration, are more likely to be established in the Canary Islands under the tax incentive. In this regard, she highlighted the role of the islands as international destination in the field of animation. She also referred to the growth in the number of companies after the reform, which has tripled its register, which she associated with the compatibility of all the Economic and Fiscal Regime (REF) incentives of the Canary Islands, which also provide a boost to the audiovisual industry in the Canary Islands.

The session, organized by the consultancy firm Assap; the Canarian production company, Sur-Films S.L. and the La Gaveta Económica magazine, also included another two panels; one made up of representatives of Sur-Films and important national and international producers to inform about the potential of the islands as regards the motion picture industry, and at the same time, to set out their strategic plans for the immediate future. The third panel was formed by investors that have had the opportunity to participate in some of the films shot in the Canary Islands, who spoke about their experience and success, and also with the participation of Cajamar which explained the financial entities’ participation plans in the audiovisual sector of the Islands.
