The Canary Islands – The Koyi animation studio, a company established in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria under the tax benefits of the Canary Islands Special Zone (ZEC), and the production company Zinkia, will team up to co-produce 36 episodes, of seven minutes each, and 22 videoclips for the new season of the children’s animation series: Pocoyo.
Koyi, a company with 100 % Spanish capital, is a newly established company within one of the key sectors for this regime: the audiovisual sector. As a Canarian partner of Zinkia, the Koyi studio is taking on the production of the new Pocoyo episodes, which will require an investment of three million euros and will bring together a team of 70 professionals. This initiative is part of the strategy for the Canary Islands to become a benchmark for companies in this sector, including the animation industry, an activity whose development in the Canary Islands benefits from the most attractive taxation system in Europe thanks to the ZEC.
Pocoyo has arrived in China via CCTV and is one of the most viewed shows on YouTube, with 16,000 million views, and is also available on platforms such as Netflix, HBO or Amazon Prime Video. In total, it has reached 150 countries through television channels and 40 on-demand platforms. One of the best news we have received is its return to free-to-air television in Mexico through TV Azteca, because of the visibility this IP will gain. Since its birth in 2005, ‘Pocoyo’ has more than 2,400 minutes produced, 38 international awards, including a BAFTA and an Annecy Crystal award and 54 apps.
