The ZEC in the workshop, ‘Startups ecosystems as new sources of growth and jobs’

Canaries.-The Canary Islands Special Zone (ZEC) has participated in the workshop, ‘Startups Ecosystems as new sources of growth and jobs’, the theme of the work session, which was held today, Tuesday, 12 June, at the headquarters of the Consortium in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where in addition, the tax advantages of this incentive were presented to attract to the Canary Islands companies from emerging and value added activity sectors, with the participation via videoconference by Victor Mulas – Disruptive Technology Initiative Core Team, President Office at World Bank Group – who presented the main conclusions on the challenges to build and develop an entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem.

This is one of the actions that is integrated into the calendar of activities planned in this educational programme of the United States State Department that during the month of June will be attended by Professor Michael Goldberg, a specialist of the Fulbright Commission. The Fullbright Specialist programme has been obtained by the Association of Technology Companies and Angel Investors (EMERGE)- a non-profit association managed by Paletexpress, Cajasiete and Marine Park – in collaboration with the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the University of La Laguna.

This session also had participation from representatives of Sodecan, the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (UPGC), the ULPGC Scientific and Technological Park, the Gran Canaria Economic Promotion Company (SPEGC), the Canary Islands Excellence Technological Clúster, the Maritime Cluster of the Canary Islands, the Astrophysic Institute of the Canary Islands (IAC), the Canaries Startup Association, the Association of Technology Companies and Angel Investors (EMERGE), the Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and other entities. The programme is supported by other public and private entities.

It must be noted that during this month Michael Goldberg (Fullbright Specialist) and the various public and private actors will work intensively and through meetings and conferences, on the goal of improving the entrepreneurial ecosystem and how to create more opportunities for the technological-based companies, the knowledge-based economy.
