The ZEC in the triangular meeting Senegal-Spain-Morocco

The president of the Canary Islands Special Zone (ZEC), Beatriz Barrera, presented today the tax incentive in the framework of the celebration of the I Meeting of Triangular Relations Spain-Morocco-Senegal, an initiative whose aim is to reinforce business opportunities among the three countries and which was held on the headquarters of Casa Africa in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. During her intervention, Barrera was accompanied by the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs of the Central Government, Ignacio Ibáñez; the Ambassador of Spain in Morocco, Ricardo Diez-Hochleitner-Rodríguez; the Ambassador of Spain in Senegal, Alberto Virella; the Minister of Investment Promotion and Partnership of Senegal, Khoudia Mbaye; the Minister of Arts, Social Economy and Solidarity of Morocco, Fatema Marouane; and the General Director of Casa Africa, Luis Padrón, among other institutional leaders.

In this context, the president presented the possibilities of ‘Les îles Canaries, une situation géo-strategique à proximité de l’Afrique’  and disaggregate the opportunity set of the islands as a tri-continental business platform with the added value of having the most competitive tax benefits approved by the European Union (EU), targeted to priority sectors such as the logistical and the industrial zones, food and beverage industry and the energy industry. Barrera had an impact on the tax incentives of this tool are aimed at job creation in strategic sectors for the diversification of the economy of the Canary Islands through companies established in the Islands.

From Casa Africa it is specified that the objectives of this triangular meeting are:

  • To link Spanish and Moroccan businessmen from the mentioned sectors with the main plaintiff of Senegal.
  • To facilitate the relationship between Spanish and Moroccan businessmen with investment agencies and banking.
  • To highlight the commitment of Spain and Moroccowith Senegal’s economic development and improving the living conditions of its population via investments in structural projects in the framework of the Plan Senegal Emergent.

Furthermore, this initiative counted with the support and the collaboration of the embassies of Spain in Senegal and Morocco and with the participation of government representatives from the three countries and of the Government of the Canary Islands in the mentioned sectors. Also, investment agencies were involved such as the Agence de Promotion des Investissements et Grands Travaux (APIX) of Senegal, support and investments (COFIDES), public bodies (ICEX and ITC),credit, banking and corporate entities (CGPM in Morocco, CNP of Senegal, the CEOE in Spain and the Chamber of Commerce of Spain).
