The ZEC goes to WEB SUMMIT in Lisbon

Canary Islands 08/11/2016.- The Canary Islands Special Zone (ZEC) will participate from today until November the 10th in WEB SUMMIT 2016, considered as the summit of technology, held in Lisbon (Portugal) and where, according to the organization, this year is expected to participate about 72,000 people among entrepreneurs, start-ups and other companies, as well as international investors. On this occasion, the ZEC goes to Lisbon together with the Canary Society of Economic Development (PROEXCA) and other institutions.

In the framework of WEB SUMMIT, a forum that has become a prominent meeting point for technology on an international scale, which is attended by leading companies and the entire business sector, the ZEC has closed an agenda of B2B meetings with American, European and national entities that, in their expansions plans, they value the Canary Islands to start their business for their opportunities, including their exceptional fiscal framework and their geostrategic situation.

The presence in this international event is linked to the new opportunities that this tax incentive offers, a set of unique advantages in Europe that set an incomparable fiscal framework for companies in the sector that bet on the Canary Islands as a technological platform for their operations directed towards international markets.

It is also important to highlight the dimension that Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) have acquired in the ZEC, being the sector of greater importance within the services, reaching in the end of 2015 a 37%. According to this data, this incentive is emerging as a pole of attraction for companies mostly related to computer activities, such as software development, as well as platforms and applications, among others, to which are added telecommunications. These activities provide investment, create employment and diversify the economy structure of the Canary Islands. Therefore, the Islands has in the ZEC the instrument to boost its projections as a technology platform.

WEB SUMMIT has become one of the most representative meetings related to technology. As in previous editions, this is one of the preferred scenarios for business networking and, given its influx, is a scenario that favours business and investment opportunities in the technological field. The first edition of this event was held in 2010 and, in these years, has acquired an international dimension. It is estimated that in this edition more than 50,000 people will attend the event, which twice the number of participants at the last edition in Dublin, which was also attended by the ZEC.
