Despite the current economic context, the ZEC continues to provide new business projects that will contribute to the diversification of the regional economy, constituted this time by a high percentage of foreign capital, which stands at 80%, and 20% remaining is mixed. Biomca Química starts the manufacture of a hydroalcoholic solution

One of the important chapters in this economic context is that of the expansion of activity by ZEC entities. With the arrival of the COVID-19 coronavirus, there are many Canarian companies in general and, in particular, those operating under the regime, which have reoriented, expanded or adapted their business model to the new needs of the market due to the demand for sanitary material , hygiene or disinfectant products for the protection of the population as prescribed by the health authorities to curb the spread of the virus.

This is the case of the company Biomca Química, the first sodium hypochlorite factory in the Canary Islands that has operated in the ZEC since 2015, established in the Tenerife Free Zone, and which, from now on, will also produce hydro-alcoholic gel as a disinfecting biocide . The new product for distribution, under the label Made in the Canary Islands, is called Hygienic Hands, a disinfectant that will be manufactured and distributed from the Islands. As the Biomca leaders explain, Hygienic Hands is a hydroalcoholic cleaning solution made from propanol, without an oxidizing agent or added thickener, through spraying, to achieve greater efficiency.

From the direction of the company they point out that with the circumstances that are currently being experienced derived from the state of sanitary alarm by COVID-19, “the chemical industry is an essential sector, and this forces to reorient or adapt production to contribute from different versions of products that help curb infections such as Hygienic Hands ”. Biomca Química has planned for this new activity an additional investment of 30,000 euros, to the 4.4 million euros of initial investment. The company currently has 17 workers, thus doubling the initial forecasts for job creation.

On the other hand, ZEC investor service agencies continue to advise and hold virtual meetings with international investors with new activities that value the fit of diversification projects with a high degree of innovation and technology under this tool, which allows the development of distribution operations from the Canary Islands of goods and services aimed at the global market. The projects constituted with foreign capital that have obtained the green light will create 69.2% of employment. The highest investment commitment comes from investee companies with mixed capital, which commit 54.5% of the global investment of the total authorized projects.
