Canary Islands 21/09/2018. – The Canary Islands Special Area (ZEC) presents itself for the first time to the Demola Canarias programme with @ttracting to ZEC, a challenge that seeks new routes to attract investments towards the Canary Islands through international promotion of this economic policy instrument, with the particular feature that it will be a team of young people from the Universities of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) and La Laguna (ULL) who formulate the proposal to achieve this objective.
The ZEC launches this challenge as a firm commitment to the talent of the Islands’ university students. This initiative means that in the future a multidisciplinary team will examine the legal-tax and logistical advantages of the Canary Islands in the context of the global economy to seek complementary actions and devise alternative formulas. For the ZEC it is a priority to commit to cooperation initiatives with the University, through a project that draws the university students to the business world like Demola Canarias, which also promotes innovation, creativity and training and above all entrepreneurship. This collaboration will also disseminate in this area the competitive advantages of this incentive of the Economic and Tax Scheme (REF) of the Canary Islands as a tool for attracting investment from driving-force economic activities and are not very present in the Islands and which, in turn, generate value-added employment.
Demola Canarias is a co-creation project (students-company), which is developed under a collaborative working methodology, aimed at exploring improvements, seek new opportunities, in addition to developing and implementing the resources necessary for innovation. This is an initiative of the Regional Department of Economy, Industry, Trade and Knowledge, through the Canary Islands Research, Innovation and Information Agency, which includes the Canary Islands Technical Institute (ITC), the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) and the University of La Laguna (ULL).
During six seasons, through Demola Canarias, which has been operating since 2015, more than 70 innovation projects have been developed applied to sectors such as industry, services, tourism and marine-maritime, among others. The proposals have been aimed at optimizing internal and organisational management processes, open new business lines and adaptation to the requirements of the market and also to make changes to embrace the circular economy and environmental sustainability or improve the efficiency of the resources.
